Team members are certified or licensed when available in their respective fields. All are certified in Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) of the adult, child and infant (1) and Neonatal Resuscitation (2) before attending as the primary assistant and S.T.A.B.L.E. (post-resuscitation and pre-transport care of the sick newborn) (3)within 3 months of hire. All pass medical screening exams necessary for health professionals providing care for mothers and babies.
(1) The Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS) course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
(2) The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.
(3) The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program was developed to meet the educational needs of health care providers who must deliver this important stabilization care. S.T.A.B.L.E. education is critical to the mission to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and to improve the future health of children and their families. S.T.A.B.L.E. is the most widely distributed and implemented neonatal education program to focus exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick infants. Based on a mnemonic to optimize learning, retention and recall of information, S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, and Emotional support. A seventh module, Quality Improvement stresses the professional responsibility of improving and evaluating care provided to sick infants.
